Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Hobbs public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Municipal Governance Accountability
Hobbs and Clovis officials may have quietly given away lawmaking authority to outside groups, so some big local decisions might not be made by the people you elected. It’s a governance-accountability story about who actually calls the shots in your city.
Baby Safe-haven Box Installation
Hobbs is installing a baby safe-haven box at a fire station after a newborn was allegedly abandoned. It lets parents surrender infants anonymously and legally, no questions asked. The goal is to prevent another dangerous abandonment and give desperate parents a safer option.
Ten Commandments monument at City Hall
Hobbs residents are rallying to keep the Ten Commandments monument at City Hall, turning a local display into a church-state fight. The issue could land on the City Council agenda soon, so expect debate over whether the city is endorsing religion or preserving a community tradition.
